Recycling Wax is warming up

Hey there, welcome to the second post! Same structure, fresh TOP5, and this time, we’re diving into one of DJing’s most loved, hated, and feared challenges: the warmup. It’s all about the delicate craft of setting the tone just right… so get ready for some prime #warmup tracks. This edition’s TOP5 comes from Italian DJ & producer Rosati, now based in Amsterdam. Glad to have you on board! Let’s drop the needle:

  1. Recent Cuts - Fresh vinyl and digital releases worth checking out.

  2. Essential Oldschool - Records from the 90s and early 2000s that still matter today.

  3. On the Horizon - Upcoming releases to keep an eye on.

  4. The Perfect Match - Two tracks that blend seamlessly in a set.

  5. Top 5 by Rosati - A handpicked selection, carefully curated each week by DJ’s.

  6. Community Pick of the Week by Andrea - One favorite from the community.

1. Recent Cuts - Fresh vinyl and digital releases worth checking out.

#1 Obscure Shape – KAIDAN EP: Luigi Urban aka Obscure Shape is back on Mitsubasa. Again, this EP combines a lot of subgenres in one: dub, housy, hard-hitting techno, and melodic elements are inside. While Luigi is sometimes playing Schranz right now, he never misses the outstanding drive and the big variety of musical understanding in his production. I still have his beginning songs from the early 2010s. Big tip!

#2 Blumitsu – METAMORPHIC: Oh wow, seriously, it was an accidental click, but I got in love for the very first second. Never heard about Blumitsu, the first release on Neil Jolliffe’s mostly Dubstep and breaky-influenced label called “Tempa”. Hard-hitting snares, phat basslines, and bouncy as heeeee333LL!!! MUST HAVE!

#3 Gary Beck – Hopper: A release that many people might have been waiting for. Scottish producer Gary Beck combined Disco with tribal. And it sounds perfect. And which label could be better than Mutual Rytm’s “Spectra” series sub-label? Great work! Solid remixes by KINK. Congrats 2 both of you guys. Marco, keep going! Curation, label work, and artwork are always on point! Floor HEATER!

#4 Donato Dozzy & Sabla – Morpho: MAESTRO made another piece of art! The Italian Donato Scaramuzzi made an EP together with Sabla from Turin and it’s trippy. It’s the typical Donato Dozzy sound, minimalistic, but every element is just ON POINT. Close your eyes and listen carefully. Bartender’s favorite for opening a club. A big influence on me! HUGE TIP!!

2. Essential Oldschool - Records from the 90s and early 2000s that still matter today.

#1 Thee Maddkatt Chronicles – Vengeance Is Mine: In the mid 90s, Aphrohead or Felix Da Housecat were two alias by Felix Stallings Jr. which got famous names around the techno globe with several releases on Bush. If you look closely at the list of aliases on Discogs, Felix got also the project Thee Maddkatt Chronicles. Somehow dark, cold and hard-hitting elements, but driving as hell. Bought the record round about 7 years ago and played it a long time ago actually. Should search and play it again!

#2 DJ HMC – 6AM / Marauder: A re-release from 2015 which I was waiting several months for. Both original records, 6AM on Undefined Recordings from 1996 and Marauder on Dirty House Recordings from 2001 were both expensive as hell. I was a student back in the day and wasn’t able to spend around about 80-100€ for both records. Thank God Australian Reflector Records made it possible to play these beauties in clubs. Maybe a label of DJ HMC himself? There is no hidden description.

#3 Fanon Flowers – Trackmodes: Element Com’s sublabel Exalt Recordings with the label heads D. Blaze (also known as Iesope Drift) and Ronald Lardy (also known as the group Obscurum 2gether w/ D. Blaze) had the vision of taking an EP of Los Angeles based Fuh-nahn alias Fanon Flowers. Uncompromising techno from the late 90s with that extra analog touch in sound. I used 2 play it in warmups cause of the warm synths and the repetitive vibe.

#4 Digital Express – The Club: the first record I’ve put on my Discogs collection list. Mischa van der Heiden & Jeroen Schrijvershof (also known as Jeroen Search) alias DJ Misjah & DJ Groovehead alias Digital Express knew how2use the TB-303. X-Trax was one of the most powerful Techno and Acid labels from the Netherlands with no filler and only KILLER records. Still a floor heater on every dancefloor in the world. DJ Misjah is now working in his 24Mastering studio and doing Mastering & Mixdown for all kinds of music. And also my releases. Always happy with his results!

#5 Teste – The Wipe: the ultimate, IMO best warmup song on planet Earth is the 5am Synaptic version on the B-Side of Probe Records PRO 14. Deep, percussive, shaky, dreamy but straight, and a synthesizer you will NEVER EVER forget in your whole life. A record I wouldn’t sell for 1000€, that’s for sure! A MUST HAVE FROM 1992!!

3. On the Horizon - Upcoming releases to keep an eye on.

#1 Ricardo Villalobos - SALVADOR (Part 2 Of 3): In an interview, Ricardo was checking the new releases and said “Here we have a commercial element in it. That record has to go.” - Outstanding selection, outstanding DJ, outstanding productions. It’s THIS TYPICAL Ricardo Villalobos sound. Listen for yo’self! Vinyl only: TIP! Release date: 18th August 2025.

#2 Dimi Angelis - ANGLS 015: Uncompromising, once again timeless. Clap on the kick. Perfect for clubs with heavy fog, strobes, and subtle lighting. A guaranteed floor heater! Will be released on 18th July 2025.

#3 The Advent & Zein - ELEKTRONICALLY MINDED PT 2: Remember those legendary releases from The Advent on Kombination Research? Then you’re in for an absolute treat. Finest dark electro to ignite the dancefloor. A must-have! The release will be on the 21st July 2025.

#4 Markantonio - RADICI: With Analytic Trail and Markantonio, we’ve got both a label and a producer who helped shape techno history from early 2000s on. Included is a remix by my m8 Isaiah that couldn’t fit the EP any better. Tribal techno the way we love it. Right? Release date: 27th June 2025.

4. The Perfect Match - Two tracks that blend seamlessly in a set.

When I’m thinking about the old mid 2010s days, there was always one conversation between DJs that mattered: “Warm-Up slot is the most difficult one, change my mind”. To be honest, I never understood this sentence. Each slot has its characteristic vibe.

Nowadays, sometimes I hear DJs talking about how fast they play and it seems they are trying to beat the others with higher bpm’s and not about how they want to build up a story that night. The more bpm, the bigger the coolness. Or is it just my interpretation of those conversations?!

We said, a night should be like a good book: starting with an Introduction, continuing with a main part, followed by a climax and and an ending. But maybe I’m the same early 30s guy who is telling 20-year-old people how the techno world should be like other early 30s guys told me ten years ago.

Anyways, the upcoming perfect match is between S.O.L. (Oliver Lieb) - Polarlicht (Mix 1) from 2000 and EL_TXEF_A – Neurotransmitters Communication from 2015. I’ve played that combination in almost every warmup set and the break of El_Txef_A still gives me goosebumps every-fckn-time!

#5 Gillan Drax - The Final Solution: What would be a set of Francesco Rosati without a surprising hard-hitting, raw and banging Acid Techno from the mid 90s? The TOP5 list starts with a project of Christian Drake and Tejinder Gill who released several records on UK based label called “Club Craft Recordings”. The two four-to-the-floor tracks are rounded off with "El Edmondo", a downtempo tune. The 303 squeals and whistles - just the way we love it!

#4 Trevor Rockcliffe Presents “Glow” - Get Your Own EP: You can’t decide between House and Techno? Trevor Rockcliffe is the solution! Perfect for playing @ Open Air locations with the sun shining on your face. Don’t forget the sunscreen.

#3 Renato Cohen - Pontapé: Brazilian techno and Intec Records was, is and will be an outstanding combination for rhythm and good vibes. The bassline on the A-Side speaks for itself. A favorite record that, surprisingly, wasn’t on your wantlist for a long time.

#2 Marco Carola - Open System: Oh yeahhhh. 3×12” pure emotions, pure variation, a piece of electronic art. Timeless. Hypnotic. Banging. Warm. Just let me dance! Will you join me?

#1 Jeff Mills - Waveform Transmission Vol. 1: It’s always hard to create a TOP5 list, but you can be sure, you always have your favorite record in your mind instantly. Pure hard-hitting, raw, and nasty, but on the other hand, the tracks feel dynamic and full of movement, never falling into predictability. Thank you so much for your TOP5 list, Francesco!

6. Community Pick of the Week by Andrea - One favorite from the community.

Zohar – Dark Kingdom EP: Oh yeah, this EP is deep. And dreamy, and str8. But mostly, it’s dreamy techno for warming up the crowd or having a transition from night to early morning sunshine. Zohar aka Đorđe Nikolić released this beauty on Physical Soul in 2002. Only one track has been uploaded for preview listening. Thanks to Skee Mask for sharing at least “Rubisha” on YouTube. And thank you very much Andrea for sending and sharing this amazing record with us.

That’s a wrap for week two! Liked it? Let me know in the comments, and send me your favorite EP by replying to this email. You might be next week’s community pick.

See you next week,
Robin Tasi @ Recycling Wax
