Recycling Wax got your summer vibes!

Hey, I’m back from a short vacation and ready to dive into summer vibes with you! This episode is all about sunshine, Tribal Techno, and House music. In the “Top 5” section, I’m sharing my favorite House tracks, and in the “Essential Oldschool” feature, we’re celebrating that funky 2000s sound we all love. But first, let’s kick things off like this:

  1. Recent Cuts - Fresh vinyl and digital releases worth checking out.

  2. Essential Oldschool - Records from the 90s and early 2000s that still matter today.

  3. On the Horizon - Upcoming releases to keep an eye on.

  4. The Perfect Match - Two tracks that blend seamlessly in a set.

  5. Top 5 by me (House Edition - unsorted) - A handpicked selection, carefully curated each week by DJ’s.

  6. Community Pick of the Week by Jeffrey - One favorite from the community.

1. Recent Cuts - Fresh vinyl and digital releases worth checking out

#1 S. Malm - WALKMAN: To start with, Woody McBride’s label “sounds.”, sublabel of Minneapolis-based Communique Records, is back with another reissue from 1998. This time with Samuel Malm, also known as Samuel Onervas. While the A-Side and B1 define a symbiosis of Disco, House, and Techno, there is also a techno classic with “Direct Disko”. Let the sun shine! Big tip!

#2 Delano Smith - AN ODYSSEY: Another reissue, different label. AN ODYSSEY by Detroit’s finest named Delano Smith on Sushitech Records and it’s so damn smoooooooth… On the one side, a perfect floor heater for an Open Air, and on the other side, perfect to relax with a cocktail of your choice. No Filler, Only Killer! Be fast!

#3 Kizi 404 - Planet Harvest: You know there is proper electro when artists show up some deep divin’ encrypted track titles. Perfect for a summer night, looking at the stars. Unknown artist with a limited stock of only 200 vinyls. So better be quick!

#4 Vromo - Undertones: Oh yeah. Summer doesn’t mean House only. While the night is cooling down, Vromo got your back with four powerful, rhythmic techno cuts. The Amsterdam-based DJ and Producer added a lot of groovy elements to it, especially the bass. Vroom Vroom Vromo! Congrats to this more than solid EP, Jim!

#5 Annē - Frescoes EP: The DJ and producer from Thessaloniki has been on a great rise for the past few years. This time on Arsenik Records, the label of Dold & Kuft from Sweden. With a deep understanding of music, Annē captures the vibe effortlessly and always brings just the right touch of softness to her techno tunes. I recently had the chance to play both before and after her. Very friendly and just an all-around cool person.

2. Essential Oldschool - Records from the 90s and early 2000s that still matter today.

#1 Bryan Zentz - D-Clash: Ah yes, what can you say about this classic? If you’re into funky vibes, there’s just no getting around Bryan Zentz. I tried, but it just didn’t work. The original still sets dancefloors around the world on fire, even after more than 20 years. If you don’t already have this record in your collection, it’s time to change it.

#2 Umek - The Right Time E.P.: You can’t get around Bryan Zentz? The same goes for tracks by Umek. Jericho dropped this beauty right at the turn of the millennium. Funky, tribal-ish, technoid, and with that unmistakable Umek stamp on every track. I picked up my copy @ Audio-In in Berlin last year. A wide, wide opener for the dance floor. A cheap copy is available on Discogs from Germany. An absolute MUST-HAVE!

#3 Oxia - Finally EP: Yes! I finally got my hands on that record two weeks ago (also @ Audio-In). It had been on my wantlist for a very long time. While the A-Side delivers funky yet deep warm-up vibes - perfect for the start of a warm summer night - the B-Side comes around with a hard-hitting, funky tribal style. I bet you won’t be able to resist dancing when this drops in the club.

#4 UK Gold - Agent Wood Remixes: Two sides packed with brilliant remixes of a beautifully crafted release by UK Gold, aka Chris McCormack. Each remix has its unique touch, bringing out different moods thanks to heavyweights like Adam Beyer, Umek, and Recycled Loops. My personal favorite is the remix by Ben Long. It hits differently in the low end when played in a club. A clear recommendation!

#5 Mr Sliff - Jelly Tracks: Today, I wanted to present some funky, groovy 2000s tracks in this category. Even though it’s tough and I could easily name 20 more records, one alias that needs to be mentioned is Adam Beyer’s “Mr Sliff”. I recently heard Rippin’ And Dippin’ at a newcomer party @ Junkyard in Dortmund, played by Lysander, and I was completely blown away. I instantly bought the record (right at the Party lol), and what can I say? Here I am, writing about it. Thanks, Florian, for playing that tune on such a beautiful afternoon!

3. On the Horizon - Upcoming releases to keep an eye on.

#1 Rick Wade, Gari Romalis, Vakula, Jacksonville - Various Vol. 2: Solid second various artists by four different producers. On the one hand, there is softness, sexiness, deep divin’ and rolling drums inside, but on the other hand, there can also be found hard-hitting kicks with a touch of roughness in an analog style. Release date: 1st September 2025!

#2 Various - King Street Sounds Sampler Vol. 4: King Street Sounds returns with volume four of their Sampler Series, delivering pure house music magic. Featuring timeless tracks from legends like DJ Romain, Dennis Ferrer, and Louis Vega, this EP captures that soulful, driving New York energy. A must-have for any DJ or house head who appreciates deep grooves and classic vibes. Release: 15th August 2025

#3 Joey Beltram - Classics: Few records capture the raw energy and innovation of early ‘90s rave quite like Classics by Joey Beltram. This newly remastered 2LP reissue brings together iconic tracks like “Mentasm” and “Jazz 303”, showcasing Beltram’s futuristic vision and seismic influence on techno history. For anyone passionate about the roots of rave, this is more than a reissue. It’s an essential piece of electronic music legacy. Limited Repress, be quick! Will be released on 25th July 2025!

4. The Perfect Match - Two tracks that blend seamlessly in a set.

Sometimes you end up repeating yourself a bit in the newsletter, I’ve already noticed that by the fourth edition. But when it comes to House, especially good old-school House from the 90s, you simply can’t leave out Trevor Rockcliffe. "Take A Chance" from 1999 is the perfect follow-up to Tim Harper’s "I Feel A Groove", which was released on Peacefrog Records back in 1996.

Of course, with House, you need to wait a bit before starting the transition, since there’s always a risk of overlapping vocals. But with these two tracks, it doesn’t matter. They just work together. Go ahead and try it out for yourself! 😊

#1 Eric Martin - Hit It How U Want 2 [DM 145]: Of course, House Top 5 - so Dance Mania has to be number one. Jesse Saunders’ label is exactly what I’ve been looking for every time I walk into a record store. For me, it’s that funky yet minimalistic vibe that makes the label so fascinating. With “Hit It How U Want 2”, it was exactly that funk, especially through the vocals, that grabbed me. It’s a record I could never sell in my whole life. One day, the time will come when I hopefully own every Dance Mania record in the catalogue. I wish for it so badly.

#2 Omar-S - Set It Out [AOS-002]: The Detroit native Alexander Omar Smith produced a track 22 years ago called Set It Out. A truly timeless banger that never gets old for me. It’s perfect for letting people lose themselves on the dancefloor and sending them off into the day with a warm feeling. I don’t know any other house track that calms me down and lets me drift into my thoughts the way Set It Out does.

I remember going through a painful breakup. It starts with that strange feeling of a new, unfamiliar routine settling in, and everything feels numb. This song helped me find a different mindset during those times, even if just for a few minutes, or sometimes, it helped me find the right thoughts.

#3 Axel Boman - Purple Drank [PAMPA 004]: Here’s another record I would never sell in my life. I first heard it on Decks back then and instantly fell in love. It was on heavy rotation in Dortmund. No matter the time, no matter which DJ was playing. I was a massive fan of the Swedish artist Axel Boman and could never understand how someone could produce such deeply emotional tracks and play such brilliant DJ sets. I should check what Axel is up to these days. At some point, I lost track. But Purple Drank still captivates me every single time. Minimalistic, repetitive, yet perfect for me. A top recommendation for sure!

#4 D.J. Funk - P-Funk [DJ 003]: Ah damn, DJ Funk. Why did you have to leave us? The name said it all—and so did the productions. I searched for this track for a solid 6 or 7 years and could never find it. Then, recently, I was listening to another DJ Funk set on YouTube and decided to just message Mitchel (stranger) on WhatsApp, because I vaguely remembered him playing it somewhere. And of course, he instantly gave me the ID.

I had to buy the record just for P-Funk alone. Incredibly good, insanely funky, with an unreal vibe. A total floor heater!

#5 Pique & Nique - You Will (Miss Me): I won’t comment on this one. Make up your mind!

6. Community Pick of the Week by Jeffrey - One favorite from the community.

Slobodan - Mine [COMP 11]: To be honest, the vacation kind of threw me off. I’ve had to put a lot of energy into my 9-to-5 job because I tend to switch up my rhythm while I’m away. It usually takes me a good 1-2-3 days to get back into the groove. That’s why I didn’t have much time to dive into this section.

But I asked my buddy Jeffrey from Berlin if he had a Community Pick ready for me, and he got back to me pretty quickly with "Slobodan - Mine". Honestly, we always say that we could play a back-to-back set blind and still hit a solid groove instantly, because our taste is so alike.

Back in 2000, Staffan Ehrlin’s record "Adroit Saviour" was released on Glenn Wilson’s label "Compound" and what can I say: it’s just a straight-up banger! Luckily, you can still get the track digitally.

Big thanks to Jeffrey for spontaneously sharing his Community Pick of the Week with me!

And that’s it for the fourth episode! If you like what we’re doing, tell your friends and family about us. And if you don’t: well, tell your enemies instead.

See you again next Thursday? We’re thinking about switching the newsletter to Mondays, so you’ll have enough time to order the records early in the week and get your fresh batch of vinyl just in time for your weekend gig. Let me know what you think about that idea!

And don’t forget: keep sending me your favorite track or record. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be the one curating the next pick in the Community section.

Simply reply to this email with your thoughts or a link to your favorite E.P.
